Environmental Policy

1. Policy Statement

At Swiss Build Ltd, we understand that construction work can affect the environment if it is not managed properly. We are committed to carrying out our work responsibly and doing all that is reasonably practicable to reduce any negative environmental impact caused by our activities.

We aim to:

• comply with all relevant environmental laws and regulations
• prevent pollution
• reduce waste and recycle wherever possible
• use materials and resources responsibly
• minimise energy use and carbon emissions
• protect local communities and the natural environment
• keep improving our environmental performance over time

Looking after the environment is everyone’s responsibility. All employees and subcontractors are expected to follow this policy and support good environmental practice at all times.

2. Responsibilities

2.1 Company Responsibility

Neil Cassidy has overall responsibility for environmental management within Swiss Build Ltd.

This includes:

• making sure the company complies with environmental legislation
• providing the resources needed to manage environmental issues properly
• monitoring how the company is performing environmentally
• reviewing this policy every year

2.2 Site Supervisors

Site supervisors are responsible for making sure environmental controls are followed on site. This includes:

• putting appropriate environmental measures in place
• ensuring waste is separated correctly where possible
• helping to prevent pollution incidents
• checking the safe storage of fuel and materials
• making sure subcontractors follow site environmental requirements

2.3 Employees and Subcontractors

All employees and subcontractors must:

• follow site environmental procedures
• dispose of waste properly
• report spills, hazards or environmental concerns immediately
• avoid wasting materials
• keep noise, dust and disruption to a minimum

Anyone failing to follow these requirements may be removed from site if necessary.

3. Environmental Arrangements

3.1 Waste Management

Swiss Build Ltd follows the waste hierarchy of reduce, reuse and recycle in all areas of its work.

We will:

• separate waste on site wherever practical
• use authorised and licensed waste facilities
• keep waste transfer notes as required by law
• avoid unnecessary packaging and material waste
• ensure any hazardous waste is handled and disposed of correctly

Swiss Build holds a valid Waste Carrier Licence / registration and ensures that construction and demolition waste is transported and disposed of in line with current legal requirements.

3.2 Pollution Prevention

We take practical steps to prevent pollution, including reducing the risk of:

• oil or fuel spills
• contamination of land or watercourses
• dust emissions
• uncontrolled discharge of materials

Fuel, oils and chemicals will be stored safely and securely, and spill kits will be kept available where needed.

3.3 Energy and Resource Efficiency

Swiss Build Ltd aims to reduce unnecessary use of fuel, energy and materials wherever possible.

We will:

• reduce fuel consumption where practical
• keep vehicles and plant maintained for efficiency
• avoid unnecessary engine idling
• use energy-efficient tools and equipment where suitable
• reduce paper use where possible

3.4 Materials and Procurement

Where reasonably practicable, we will:

• source materials responsibly
• avoid materials that have a high environmental impact
• use sustainable timber products where appropriate
• reduce waste by ordering materials accurately

3.5 Noise and Dust Control

We will take sensible steps to reduce noise and dust arising from our work. This includes:

• restricting noisy work to suitable hours where possible
• maintaining equipment to reduce emissions
• using dust suppression measures where required
• protecting neighbouring properties and public areas

3.6 Biodiversity and Local Environment

Where relevant, we will:

• protect trees, hedgerows and vegetation
• avoid unnecessary disturbance to wildlife
• respect protected species and environmentally sensitive areas

4. Monitoring and Review

Swiss Build Ltd will monitor its environmental performance and investigate any environmental incidents that occur. Where improvements are needed, corrective action will be taken.

This policy will be reviewed every year, or sooner if there is a significant change in the business or in legal requirements.
