1. Health & Safety Policy Statement

Swiss Build is committed to ensuring, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of:

  • Our employees

  • Subcontractors

  • Clients

  • Visitors

  • Members of the public affected by our works

We recognise our duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all relevant UK health and safety legislation.

Swiss Build will:

  • Provide safe systems of work

  • Maintain safe plant and equipment

  • Provide appropriate training, instruction and supervision

  • Assess and control workplace risks

  • Consult with employees on health and safety matters

  • Ensure safe handling and storage of materials

  • Prevent accidents and work-related ill health

  • Continuously review and improve our health and safety performance

Health and safety is a shared responsibility. All employees and subcontractors must cooperate and take reasonable care of themselves and others.

2. Organisation & Responsibilities

2.1 Overall Responsibility

Neil Cassidy has overall responsibility for health and safety within Swiss Build.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring this policy is implemented

  • Providing adequate resources for health and safety

  • Ensuring risk assessments and method statements are completed

  • Monitoring compliance

  • Reviewing this policy annually


2.2 Site Supervisors / Managers

Site supervisors are responsible for:

  • Implementing safe working practices on site

  • Ensuring workers follow risk assessments and method statements

  • Conducting site inductions

  • Monitoring use of PPE

  • Reporting accidents and near misses

  • Stopping unsafe work immediately


2.3 Employees & Subcontractors

All workers must:

  • Take reasonable care for their own health and safety

  • Follow company safety procedures

  • Use PPE provided

  • Report hazards, defects and incidents

  • Not interfere with safety equipment

Failure to comply with safety procedures may result in removal from site.


3. Arrangements

3.1 Risk Assessments

Swiss Build will carry out suitable and sufficient risk assessments for:

  • All construction activities

  • Site-specific hazards

  • Use of machinery and tools

  • Working at height

  • Manual handling

  • Electrical works

  • Excavations and structural work

Control measures will be implemented and communicated before work begins.


3.2 Method Statements (RAMS)

Where required, detailed Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) will be prepared and briefed to all relevant personnel prior to commencement of works.


3.3 Training & Competence

Swiss Build will ensure:

  • Workers are competent for their tasks

  • Appropriate CSCS cards are held where required

  • Training is provided for plant, equipment and high-risk activities

  • Toolbox talks are conducted regularly

Subcontractors must provide evidence of competence.


3.4 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Appropriate PPE will be provided where risks cannot be controlled by other means.

Typical PPE may include:

  • Hard hats

  • High-visibility clothing

  • Safety boots

  • Gloves

  • Eye protection

  • Hearing protection

PPE must be worn as required on site.


3.5 Accident Reporting

All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported immediately.

Swiss Build will:

  • Record all accidents

  • Investigate serious incidents

  • Report RIDDOR-reportable incidents to the HSE where legally required


3.6 First Aid

Adequate first aid arrangements will be provided on all sites, including:

  • First aid kits

  • Appointed first aiders where required

  • Emergency contact procedures


3.7 Fire Safety

Swiss Build will:

  • Conduct fire risk assessments where required

  • Ensure safe storage of flammable materials

  • Provide suitable fire extinguishers

  • Maintain clear access and escape routes

  • Brief workers on emergency procedures


3.8 Working at Height

Where work at height cannot be avoided:

  • Proper access equipment will be used

  • Scaffolding will be erected by competent persons

  • Ladders will be used appropriately

  • Edge protection will be installed where necessary

All work at height will comply with the Work at Height Regulations 2005.


3.9 Manual Handling

Where possible, manual handling will be avoided.

Where unavoidable:

  • Loads will be assessed

  • Mechanical aids will be used

  • Workers will receive appropriate training


3.10 Contractors & Visitors

All subcontractors must:

  • Provide evidence of insurance

  • Provide RAMS where required

  • Comply with site rules

Visitors must:

  • Sign in

  • Follow site safety instructions

  • Wear appropriate PPE


3.11 Monitoring & Review

Swiss Build will:

  • Conduct regular site inspections

  • Review risk assessments

  • Investigate incidents

  • Review this policy annually or following significant change

This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if:

  • There are changes in legislation

  • There are significant changes to operations

  • Following a serious incident
